DATA DIVE
The New R&D Playbook in the AI Era
Pharma has spent decades trying to fix a stubborn problem: R&D spending keeps rising, but productivity has not kept pace. AI is beginning to change that equation, not by eliminating experimentation, but by improving which experiments get run in the first place.

The emerging model is moving from a linear pipeline to a closed learning loop. AI can help prioritize targets, design molecules, optimize trials, identify patients, and feed real-world evidence back into discovery. At the same time, R&D is becoming more networked, with CROs, AI-native biotechs, hospitals and data partners increasingly embedded in the innovation stack.
The key shift is strategic: the advantage is no longer just owning the best assets, but learning faster across the entire R&D system.
Why it matters: The winners of the AI era will be the companies that redesign R&D around continuous learning, not those that simply add AI tools to old workflows.

COMPANY OF THE WEEK
RougeTx’s $58M Bet on More Stable Blood Vessels
RougeTx is targeting the blood vessel instability behind an inherited bleeding disorder, rather than simply managing its symptoms. The Dutch biotech launched October 6 with a $58 million Series A co-led by BioGeneration Ventures, Angelini Ventures, and Kurma Partners.
Its lead program, RTX-001, is being developed as a potential once-daily oral treatment for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. The approach targets pericytes, support cells that help maintain blood vessel integrity. The funding will advance the program toward clinical development.
Why it matters: RougeTx pairs a rare-disease entry point with a vascular biology platform. If restoring vessel stability translates into patient benefit, the opportunity could extend beyond its initial indication. That remains an investment thesis, not a demonstrated clinical outcome. RougeTx is preclinical, and human safety and efficacy are unproven. The next test is whether its biological approach can produce a practical treatment that meaningfully reduces the burden of recurrent bleeding for patients. (More)
Finally, a Monday that doesn’t feel like one.
Imagine a Saturday where you're not catching up on the CRM you didn't touch all week.
HubSpot's new self-updating CRM doesn't wait for you to log back in. Friday's calls are already logged. The deal that needs a nudge Monday morning is already flagged. The automation you set up once keeps running without you thinking about it. None of it needed you over the weekend.
Customers are already seeing it pay off: 45% more deals closed. Finally, you start Monday caught up, not behind.
